Adopting a Child in Florida

Adoption is the legal process by which a child becomes, through court action, part of your family.

This will be one of the most important and rewarding decisions you can make.

Adoption in the State of Florida requires that the person or persons who want to adopt

under go a thorough background investigation and evaluation. The investigation can

take from several weeks to several months and can cost up to $5000. More realistically,

in the Jacksonville, Florida area the costs of the initial investigation is in the range of

$2000 to $2500. After the initial placement of the child and before the adoption is

finalized there is required another evaluation of the home which includes how well

the new family and the child is progressing.
